Eligibility for Examination
- 18 years of age or older(1’st Class)/16 years of age or older(2’nd Class,PWC Class)
- Corrected visual acuity of 0.5 or better
If the visual acuity in one eye is less than 0.5, the horizontal field of vision in the other eye must be 150 degrees or more. - The ability to distinguish the color of ship lights(*Red/Green/White) at night
*Using dedicated inspection tools - Being able to understand what people are saying from 5 meters away
- Additionally, there should be no impediments to operating boats or similar vessels.
Certain medical conditions, such as heart disease or epilepsy, may require the submission of a doctor’s diagnosis certificate.

- Depending on your qualifications, you may be exempt from certain sections of the exam.
Submission of a physical examination certificate for small vessels is not required, but if submitted, the physical examination fee will be ¥2,450.
Individuals with heart disease, epilepsy, cataracts, glaucoma, or similar conditions must submit a physician’s certificate stating that operating a small vessel will not cause any impairment.
